FEU school uniform

Introduction:

Have you noticed school uniform is in the news? School uniforms are a hot topic. Your school corporation’s school board and administrators are seriously considering school uniforms. To be fair, they want your input. Your class has been asked to look at arguments both for and against uniforms, and explore school uniforms and “standardized dress” to develop your own suggestions for a change. They are willing to compromise if you can persuade them that your ideas will be fair and are backed by research. School uniforms have been a hot topic in the local area recently.  Students are very adamant about their rights to dress as they please, and are sometimes vocal about their objections to current school dress codes. Using the students’ interests and passion as a driving force, this web quest allows them to see both sides of the issue and develop their own school uniform while trying to appease advocates both for and

While this project is largely about uniforms and uniform design, history also plays a large role in my opinion. I’m going to do my best to keep it both educational and interesting, in hopes that I can help my fellow feu better appreciate the roots of our great franchise. This includes not only the uniforms of the feu, but also the less obvious in other university.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

School uniform is an outfit—a set of standardized clothes—worn primarily for an educational institution. They are common in primary and secondary schools in many nations. When used, they form the basis of a school’s dress code.

Traditionally, school uniforms have tended to be subdued and professional. Boys’ uniforms often consist of dark short or long trousers and light-colored shirt, often with a tie. Girls’ uniforms vary greatly between countries and schooling systems, but typically consist of a dress or a blouse worn either with a skirt or culottes or under a pinafore. In some countries, gender-specific uniforms have been a point of contention, with some schools permitting female students to choose either skirts or trousers while still requiring male students to wear trousers. The use of a blazer or suit-like jacket for either gender is also fairly common, especially in countries with relatively cold weather.

As everyone knows that uniform is the most important things that need to be consider in schools and Universities here in the Philippines. A uniform are very important and fosters traits which are very necessary for a person as an individual and an organization as a whole to thrive and prosper.
Wearing uniform is smart and simple, allowing a variety of styles provided that the basic colours of green and gold for indoor uniform are maintained.
This paper wants some students and some higher persons to be aware that it is more appropriate that every Institute has different uniforms to recognize each Institute easily.

Background of FEU

The Far Eastern University is a non-secretarial, private university in the Philippines.. Far Eastern University was founded in 1934 when the Far Eastern College and the Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance (IABF) merged. Far Eastern College, founded in 1919, had been a liberal arts college in Quiapo; the IABF had been established (originally under the name Institute of Accountancy) by Nicanor Reyes, Sr., head of the Department of Economics of the University of the Philippines, with a number of other prominent educators in 1928. IABF had been originally predominately used by night students, and the new university, which was supported by the tuition provided by its students rather than government grants, soon demonstrated that a private university was financially sustainable in the Philippines. The Far Eastern University aims to be a private university of choice in Asia. Committed to the highest intellectual, moral and cultural standards, it strives to produce great students in the future.

Statement of the Problem:

The following are the problems in FEU uniform:

Ø    Frequently changing of FEU uniform

Ø    P.E uniform

Ø    School uniform

Blouse

Skirt

Before 2007

-White blouse w/a green checkered linings

-With a ribbon

- A green checkered balloon skirt

2007-2008

-white fitted blouse

-pencil cut, green checkered skirt

2008-present

-white fitted thicker cloth blouse

-pencil cut, green skirt.

Confusing school uniform

·      The students love mixing uniform like:

-          A present blouse paired w/ green checkered

-          Present blouse paired w/ 2007-2008 skirt.

Ø      Different style of uniform and it is all applicable in all courses/institute

-          In order to organize this situation we proposed to have a one style of uniform in every institute:

Ø      Uniform in FEU is not organized.

-          Even though FEU have a new style uniform for freshmen students they still permitted to wear the old style of uniform.

-          So for freshmen who doesn’t like the new style of uniform is just a waste of money?

Ø      Proper P.E uniform:

-          Because what’s the point of selling the shirts of cooperative store if it isn’t allowed to wear inside the campus and the students are suffering to proceed in gate 4 & they will have a violation because they are not wearing a proper school uniform.

Recommendation and Benefits

The proposed Quality Improvement Plan focused on these school uniform standards of university

1.      Revision for School uniform:

PRESENT

PROPOSAL

For Girls:

These school uniform standards are designed to help ensure that the students are well-prepared, both physically and mentally, for academic and social success here in FEU.

Students should come to school in clean clothes daily.

Clothing should not be too low, high, tight, loose, or transparent.

No logos or labels should be exposed.

Items that are too short, tight, or worn due to student growth and usage must be replaced. Worn clothing includes but is not limited to holes, tears, frays and stains.

Students may be required to wear specific School Uniform items for special events.

Winter accessories such as hats, mittens/gloves and scarves must be removed upon entering the school.  Fashion hats are not permitted.

Shoes: All shoes should be flat, rubber bottomed. Due to daily Physical Education.

Socks: Socks or tights are required due to daily Physical Education and Yoga. All socks and tights should be in complimentary school colors.

Pants: Khaki or navy blue pants, Capri’s, shorts or skirts. No skirts may be worn. Shorts and skirts must be at least fingertip length or longer when standing. Pants, Capri’s, shorts and skirts must be worn at the waist.

Pants must be loose fitting and fit properly. Not drag the ground, not rolled up, no cut in any manner. Not excessively frayed at hem; should not be too tight, baggy, sagging, ripped, excessively flared, wide leg skate style, form fitting, or worn in a way that exposes undergarments.

2. Revision of standardization of School Uniform

PRESENT

PROPOSAL

What’s the point of selling the shirts of cooperative store if it isn’t allowed to wear inside the campus and the students are suffering to proceed in gate 4 & they will have a violation because they are not wearing a proper school uniform?

Wash day:

So that the organization shirts that bought by the students will not be wasted. The student can wear there organization shirts.

Uniforms or standardized attire for students in FEU is necessary. There may be time in the future when cultural events or changes occur that may hinder the ability of our students to maximize their potential. If indicators point to a need for uniformity to resolve the issue.

Students should dress in a way that is conducive to the learning environment and not distracting to others. The dress code should clearly define the expectations for personal appearance. The policy of FEU should then empower school staff with the flexibility to enforce the code with appropriate discretion.

BENEFITS:

Since FEU only have a standard uniform for almost all the institutes, our proposal will help everyone to distinguish on what institute the student belongs. Different styles of uniform will add fashion to students. FEU students will be happier if this proposal will be implemented.

HIM.. =))

You may not be his first, his last or his only. He loved before he may love again. But if he loves you now, what else matters? He’s not perfect —- you aren’t either and the two of you may never be perfect together but if he can make you laugh, cause you to think twice and admit to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He may not be thinking about you everyday second of the day, but he will give you a part of his that he knows you can break —- his heart. So don’t hurt him, don’t change him, don’t analyze and don’t expect more than he can give. Smile when he makes you happy, let him know wen he makes you mad and miss him when he’s not there.

Attention Beauties! =*

Getting Your Beauty Sleep!

Attention beauties: Never underestimate the importance of getting enough sleep! Getting adequate sleep plays a crucial role in not just your mental functions, but in your physical appearance as well. The amount of sleep you are typically getting is displayed in your general appearance, your weight, your skin and also your stress levels. Don’t write off the phrase “beauty sleep” as a simple cliche. It holds far more truth than most people know.

SKIN:

Sleeping gives your body a chance to repair itself on the cellular level. As you sleep, extra protein molecules are produced to rid your skin of pollutants and infections while they simultaneously rebuild the cells that allow you to wake up refreshed with radiant skin. Think of the days you don’t get enough sleep. You pull yourself up with puffy, bloodshot eyes surrounded by dark circles. You don’t get the necessary sleep to allow the molecules to repair yesterday’s damage. Getting the right amount of sleep is the proven “anti aging” miracle we all dream of.

WEIGHT:

Now you can stop feeling guilty when you go to bed early and skip your daily workout because proper sleeping habits can help control your body weight. When you sleep, the hormones that regulate your appetite are placed back in control, possibly ridding your thoughts of those nasty cravings. When you deprive your body of sleep, your body naturally craves sugar and carbohydrates as a defense mechanism to jolt you awake. For those of you who can’t seem to shed those last five pounds, try hitting the hay an hour early.

STRESS:

Of course, the best way to feel beautiful is to not feel stressed. Stress hormones are released during the day as a result of today’s fast paced lifestyle. These hormones have physical effects on the body as well. Excessive stress is a common cause of the degeneration of internal organs as well as the aging of your skin (aka: wrinkles!). Sleep helps to reverse many of these effects as it maintains a state of relaxation.

Personal Procedures: by me

A safe and disciplined learning environment is the first requirement of a good school. Young people who are
safe and secure and who learn basic American values and the essentials of good citizenship are better students.
In response to growing levels of violence in the nation’s schools, many parents, teachers, and school
officials have come to see school uniforms as one positive and creative way to reduce discipline problems and
increase school safety . They observed that the adoption of school uniform
policies could promote school safety, improve discipline, and enhance the learning environment. The potential benefits of school uniforms include:
1. Decreasing violence and theft, even threatening situations, among students over designer clothing or expensive sneakers.
2. Helping prevent gang members from wearing gang colors and insignia at school.
3. Instilling students with discipline.
4. Helping parents and students resist peer pressure.
5. Helping students concentrate on their work.
6. Helping school officials recognize intruders who come to the school

The use of school uniforms as a mechanism to draw
attention away from student differences and social groups and to focus concentration and energy toward learning
with a shared vision of expectation of success.

School Uniforms: Where They Are and Why They Work
A safe and disciplined learning environment is the first requirement of a good school. Young people who are safe and secure, who learn basic American values and the essentials of good citizenship, are better students. In response to growing levels of violence in our schools, many parents, teachers, and school officials have come to see school uniforms as one positive and creative way to reduce discipline problems and increase school safety.

They observed that the adoption of school uniform policies can promote school safety, improve discipline, and enhance the learning environment. The potential benefits of school uniforms include:

decreasing violence and theft — even life-threatening situations — among students over designer clothing or expensive sneakers;
helping prevent gang members from wearing gang colors and insignia at school;
instilling students with discipline;
helping parents and students resist peer pressure;
helping students concentrate on their school work; and
helping school officials recognize intruders who come to the school.
As a result, many local communities are deciding to adopt school uniform policies as part of an overall program to improve school safety and discipline. California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, Tennessee, Utah and Virginia have enacted school uniform regulations. Many large public school systems — including Baltimore, Cincinnati, Dayton, Detroit, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Miami, Memphis, Milwaukee, Nashville, New Orleans, Phoenix, Seattle and St. Louis — have schools with either voluntary or mandatory uniform policies, mostly in elementary and middle schools. In addition, many private and parochial schools have required uniforms for a number of years. Still other schools have implemented dress codes to encourage a safe environment by, for example, prohibiting clothes with certain language or gang colors.

————————————————————————————————————————

Users’ Guide to Adopting a School Uniform Policy
The decision whether to adopt a uniform policy is made by states, local school districts, and schools. For uniforms to be a success, as with all other school initiatives, parents must be involved. The following information is provided to assist parents, teachers, and school leaders in determining whether to adopt a school uniform policy.

Get parents involved from the beginning
Parental support of a uniform policy is critical for success. Indeed, the strongest push for school uniforms in recent years has come from parent groups who want better discipline in their children’s schools. Parent groups have actively lobbied schools to create uniform policies and have often led school task forces that have drawn up uniform guidelines. Many schools that have successfully created a uniform policy survey parents first to gauge support for school uniform requirements and then seek parental input in designing the uniform. Parent support is also essential in encouraging students to wear the uniform.

Protect students’ religious expression
A school uniform policy must accommodate students whose religious beliefs are substantially burdened by a uniform requirement. As U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley stated in Religious Expression in Public Schools, a guide he sent to superintendents throughout the nation on August 10, 1995:

Students may display religious messages on items of clothing to the same extent that they are permitted to display other comparable messages. Religious messages may not be singled out for suppression, but rather are subject to the same rules as generally apply to comparable messages. When wearing particular attire, such as yarmulkes and head scarves, during the school day is part of students’ religious practice, under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act schools generally may not prohibit the wearing of such items.

Protect students’ other rights of expression
A uniform policy may not prohibit students from wearing or displaying expressive items — for example, a button that supports a political candidate - so long as such items do not independently contribute to disruption by substantially interfering with discipline or with the rights of others. Thus, for example, a uniform policy may prohibit students from wearing a button bearing a gang insignia. A uniform policy may also prohibit items that undermine the integrity of the uniform, notwithstanding their expressive nature, such as a sweatshirt that bears a political message but also covers or replaces the type of shirt required by the uniform policy.

Determine whether to have a voluntary or mandatory school uniform policy
Some schools have adopted wholly voluntary school uniform policies which permit students freely to choose whether and under what circumstances they will wear the school uniform. Alternatively, some schools have determined that it is both warranted and more effective to adopt a mandatory uniform policy.

When a mandatory school uniform policy is adopted, determine whether to have an “opt out” provision
In most cases, school districts with mandatory policies allow students, normally with parental consent, to “opt out” of the school uniform requirements.

Some schools have determined, however, that a mandatory policy with no “opt out” provision is necessary to address a disruptive atmosphere. A Phoenix, Arizona school, for example, adopted a mandatory policy requiring students to wear school uniforms, or in the alternative attend another public school. That Phoenix school uniform policy was recently upheld by a state trial court in Arizona. Note that in the absence of a finding that disruption of the learning environment has reached a point that other lesser measures have been or would be ineffective, a mandatory school uniform policy without an “opt out” provision could be vulnerable to legal challenge.

Do not require students to wear a message
Schools should not impose a form of expression on students by requiring them to wear uniforms bearing a substantive message, such as a political message.

Assist families that need financial help
In many cases, school uniforms are less expensive than the clothing that students typically wear to school. Nonetheless, the cost of purchasing a uniform may be a burden on some families. School districts with uniform policies should make provisions for students whose families are unable to afford uniforms. Many have done so. Examples of the types of assistance include: (a) the school district provides uniforms to students who cannot afford to purchase them; (b) community and business leaders provide uniforms or contribute financial support for uniforms; (c) school parents work together to make uniforms available for economically disadvantaged students; and (d) used uniforms from graduates are made available to incoming students.

Treat school uniforms as part of an overall safety program
Uniforms by themselves cannot solve all of the problems of school discipline, but they can be one positive contributing factor to discipline and safety. Other initiatives that many schools have used in conjunction with uniforms to address specific problems in their community include aggressive truancy reduction initiatives, drug prevention efforts, student-athlete drug testing, community efforts to limit gangs, a zero tolerance policy for weapons, character education classes, and conflict resolution programs. Working with parents, teachers, students, and principals can make a uniform policy part of a strong overall safety program, one that is broadly supported in the community.
